University Roundtable: Is There Still a Public for Public Education?   (back)

Description:
One of our society's bigger challenges is its evacuation of the public sphere. Public health, public housing, and public transportation are struggling in most communities. Today, public education remains one of the last remaining institutions being supported by the public. However, that support seems to be dwindling. In this talk, Gloria Ladson-Billings, Kellner Family Distinguished Professor in Urban Education, will discuss the signs that there may not be a public for public education.
