Launched on 13 October of 1990 as a result of bargaining between the Teaching Assistants’ Association, UW-Madison, and the State of Wisconsin. Currently offered 17 times each academic year for Teaching Assistants, Project/Program Assistants, and Research Assistants. Presented and sponsored by the Office for Equity and Diversity in the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement; the McBurney Disability Resource Center; the Teaching Assistants’ Association; the Office of Compliance; the Division of University Health Services, the Bias Response Team in the Division of Student Life, Employee Assistance Office, Ombuds Office; and the Office of Human Resources.
Teaching Assistants cannot be reappointed for more than one semester unless they have completed this professional development workshop.
Participants receive information about relevant laws, policies, regulations and resources; explore the practical application of these policies to classroom and learning environments; and engage in conversations designed to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and excellence through diversity. Since 2006, partnered with the Theatre for Cultural and Social Awarenes, (TCSA). The sessions promote the development of competencies that sustain and strengthen UW-Madison's position of preeminence in research and higher education and advance critical campus strategic priorities.
Vision Statement:
Participants receive information about relevant laws, policies, regulations and resources; explore the practical application of these policies to classroom and learning environments; and engage in conversations designed to promote dialogues.
