The First Nations Cultural Landscape Tour examines the 12,000 years of humanity documented along the shores of the Waksikhomik (original Ho-Chunk language name for Lake Mendota). On this place-based learning tour, participants visit a 1,200-year-old archaeological site and visit campus landmarks illuminating the university’s ongoing relationships with the contemporary First Nations of Wisconsin, including the Ho-Chunk Nation, on whose ancestral lands the university now sit.
The tour will be lead by Omar Poler, Indigenous Education Coordinator. The walking tour will begin at the front steps of the Memorial Union (steps leading to the second floor) and will end at Dejope Residence Hall.
This event is hosted by the OVCRGE Equity and Diversity Committee and is open to all in OVCRGE.
