University Roundtable: From Controversy to Common Ground? How to Communicate Science in a Polarized World  (back)

Description:
Misinformation – in politics and science – is not a new problem. But algorithmically curated news environments, especially online, are increasingly creating a world in which different publics also believe in different sets of facts and realities. How can we effectively communicate science in this polarized world? What role do societal factors play in our ability and motivation to recognize falsehoods? And how can scientists and science communicators be more effective in how we connect with underinformed or misinformed publics? Department of Life Sciences Communication Professor Dietram Scheufele will present potential answers to these questions about our complex communication landscape.
