Food is a word that elicits different responses for people, from consideration of culinary tastes, to lack of availability, and is ultra important because it is a basic need for human health and livelihood. We in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences (CALS) explore food as a lifestyle, a business and a source of oppression, and research shows what an impact it can have on people's daily lives. This workshop will feature experts who will lead discussion on a number of relevant topics (i.e. Food Justice, Food as Freedom, Urban Farming, etc.).
The goal is to shine a light on issues that affect everyday people related to food security and insecurity, particularly in how access is disproportionate based on demographics. It is an opportunity to showcase experts with UW and community ties who can share the impact these issues have on particularly the most vulnerable populations, and how people can get involved.
