Oral History: What is it? And how do I do it?  (back)

Description:
In this 90 minute hybrid workshop, UW's Oral Historian Troy Reeves will ask and answer two questions: What is Oral History? And how to practice it? After offering a brief overview of oral history, Reeves will focus on the how question. Specifically, learning how to do oral history well means learning how to plan and propose a project, how (and where) to research, what to do to prepare for an interview, as well as what to focus on during the recording session, such being present & listening. All these skills can benefit graduate students in their work and lives.

If you require any accessibility accommodations to attend or participate in this event, please let us know by emailing troy.reeves@wisc.edu with the subject “OH Workshop Accommodations.” Requests for sign-language interpreters, real-time captioning, Braille or electronic documents should be made at least two weeks before the event. We will attempt to fulfill requests made after this date but cannot guarantee they will be met. Note: As a hybrid session, Zoom captions will be turned on.
