This is a 75-minute workshop collaboratively taught by staff from Memorial Library, Special Collections, UW Archives and the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS). Attendees will learn to think through their research needs and create research questions that guide them to appropriate information sources in the archives. Attendees will also learn about different kinds of archives (including how they differ from libraries), how to plan for their visit, what to expect when you arrive at the archive (e.g., protocols, social expectations) and using finding aids. If you require any accessibility accommodations to attend or participate in this event, please let us know by emailing laura.martin@wisc.edu with the subject “Introduction to Archival Research Accommodations.” Requests for sign-language interpreters, real-time captioning, Braille or electronic documents should be made at least two weeks before the event. We will attempt to fulfill requests made after this date but cannot guarantee they will be met.
