This workshop (https://qualiamachine.github.io/Intro_GCP_for_ML/) introduces core machine learning and generative AI workflows using Google Cloud Platform (GCP), with a focus on Vertex AI and Gemini. The workshop emphasizes cost-aware, reproducible workflows appropriate for research environments. No previous experience with cloud computing is expected.
Participants will learn how to:
- Store and manage data using Google Cloud Storage
- Configure and use Vertex AI Workbench notebooks
- Train PyTorch models and run hyperparameter tuning jobs in Vertex AI
- Monitor resource usage and control cloud costs
- Choose appropriate resources for different AI workloads
- Build a simple RAG pipeline using Gemini models
Prerequisites: Familiarity with Python and core ML/AI concepts (model training, hyperparameter tuning, and common evaluation metrics) is expected.
Free access to GCP: All registrants will be added to a shared GCP project to avoid any charges. Instructors will provide guidance on responsible resource usage throughout the workshop.
